GARY-PAUL TV goes off the air!!

Well we were on iTunes, YouTube and the Web and it has been fun. But all vanity projects must come to an end. We shot machine guns in Las Vegas, sang Kareoke in South Beach, stayed at the best hotels and ate at the best restaurants and now it all ends.

Linguiça (Sausage) Festa!

Here's a peek into a Portuguese tradition. My better half's family gets together for an annual sausage fest. Sounds a bit wild huh? Delve into the crazy world of sausage making. I will tell you it was a damn good time...in addition to making our own sausage we also drank homemade booze of a couple of varieties, one of them being a delicious drink call "Angelica." Okay well I have been working on a bunch of podcasts for my employer. To date I have produced over 300 of them and only a miniscule amount, due to reasons beyond my control, have yet to post. I have submitted a few that are out of the realm of info/educational podcasts and well our blog editor decided that they are not appropo for primetime. In all honesty what I love about Vlogging is the freedom to share with folks. A great friend of mine told me once that "there is no room in the new paradigm for editors." I wholeheartedly believe this. Once a new technology or form of delivery is born it soon is haunted by souls whose single concern is to control this new discovery. Commericalisation is a cancerous boil that grows on any and everything original. Here is a clip that was a sincere attempt to share a behind the scenes look at the fun I have with my associates. Not ready for primtime but ready for Gary-Paul TV. I have a bunch of footage waiting to be edited I promise to get back to the regular posting schedule.

Office workers have a hard time these days with all the hustle, bustle and demands made possible by digital technology. Gary-Paul TV was on hand for a venture into stress reduction with the folks at Peachpit Press in Berkeley, CA. Folks in the Peachpit office took time out of their day to do the Limbo, drink punch, and eat cookies. We recommend that offices around the world take a tip from Peachpit and break away from their hectic work day to Limbo around the office or perhaps maybe try Salsa, Tango, The Bunnyhop or even the Hokey Pokey. It just makes sense to take time to remember that life is more than pencil pushing and keystroking. NOTE: This footage was taken with a Treo 700 Palm phone- thus the quality is less than our other videos however pretty damn good for a telephone!

FlashForward Austin was an incredible event. All the yahoo designers and developers gathered together in Austin's Hilton Hotel for the premier Flash event of the year and Adobe threw the big bash at Maggie Mae's, one of Austin's 6th street hot spots. Gary-Paul TV was there and egged on our friend Karyn to don a sombrero filled with chips, carry a bowl of pico de gallo, and entice party goers to eat chips from her head. GPTV recommends FlashForward for anyone interested in Flash and if you do make it...watch out for the Frito Bandito!

At Peachpit Press there is a tradition to take staff members to their restaurant of choice for a birthday lunch. Located in Berkeley, California there is a plethora of available restaurants of various cuisines. The Peachpit staff is filled with persnickety and well educated foodies, usually some exotic restaurant is chosen...but not for Gary-Paul's B-Day lunch. In an effort to break the Berkeleyite Northern California snobby palate I chose the least politically correct restaurant and cultural icon of bad taste: McDonald's. Join me and my fellow associates(at least the ones who could stomach it) as we go on an adventure to a restaurant around the corner that we have never visited in all our years at Peachpit. I will also say that the crew in this video warmed my heart by joining me in this risky venture(some folks couldn't make the leap)...not only do I have the best co-workers in the world but these folks prove they are friends come hell or highwater.

At Gary-Paul TV we recommend drinking and driving just not at the same time. The great state of Texas has some of the nations most rigid laws and severest penalties and rightly so. Drinking and driving accidents can be avoided yet every year they claim the lives of inncocent people all over the US. Enough said...now on a hot day there is nothing like having a cool frozen margarita or some other concoction mixed in a blender with obscene amounts of alcohol to catch a buzz and beat the heat. Well down in San Antonio, Texas they have a new spin on the drive through ice house and how best to acquire your frozen drinks. (FYI: an ice house is basically a convienence store). Join me as I drive through the newly opened Beer-N-All and sample the frozen specialities served up by friendly Texans.

May 1st, 2006 San Francisco, CA. The numbers vary some say as many as 200,000 people came to protest the treatment of immigrants in the US. The march contained a mix of people from different backgrounds but mostly those of hispanic heritage were represented. A silent minority became vocal on this day. After 9/11 the status quo of the US travel experience changed dramatically with regard to security measures. Working in the corporate world requires a certain amount of travel... in my case approximately 45 take off and landings per year. Although the reasons are the same and the structure of air travel has remained unchanged, the heightened security brings in the element of fear and suspicion. SUBJECT TO SEARCH is but a moving document of this experience. Welcome to the Orwellian airport: will there be a time when security lines are everywhere and we as citizens are under a constant reduction and scrutiny by the state? Will the quotes of travelers remain the same? "I don't mind giving up a little bit of freedom to be safe." Throughout my travels I have heard many people say those words verbatim...it sends shivers down my spine everytime I do.

Welcome to my new Blog which is inspired to be a Vlog. Well something like that. I was encouraged by my new friends, Ryanne Hodson and Michael Verdi, they just published a new book called Secrets to VideoBlogging- you can get a copy at: peachpit.com

Anyway this Blog is going to be focused on INFERNO Co. which is my art factory where I engage in creating art traditional and digital media in addition to maintaining the INFERNO Gallery which exhibits high art that has been banned or unwelcomed at mainstream fine art galleries. INFERNO Co. also supports the community by sponsoring meetings as well as loans space for KajuKenbo Martial Arts.

INFERNO Co. is located in East Oakland in what used to be a Iron Factor named Armor Products. It is now known as the Vulcan Studios. The factory was converted in the 1980's into a collection of art studios tied by a labryinth of hallways and courtyards. Many artists, filmmakers, and musicians have come out of the Vulcan Studios. In the past their have been music shows, experimental theatre, radio stations and feature film productions that have all sprung from this community.

My other Blog Beautiful Hell in the USA will continue to have entries and they will be as random and location centric as the rest. I hope to also add video of the local resident prostitutes, drug addicts, artists, and more. I hope you continue to read the meanderings and musings of a bohemian in the ghetto....it truly is a Beautiful Hell in the USA.

In the meantime I am gathering material for the next installment of Gary-Paul's Vlog.
